Why a "National Day of Prayer"?
Submitted by Wholly Guacamole on Tue, 04/30/2013 - 21:31.Thursday, May 2nd 2013, was the "National Day of Prayer". For the life of me I can’t figure out why. Prayer seems quite pointless — and not only to me, but to both the scientific community and the Bible.

The Air Force Chaplain Corps provides spiritual care and the opportunity . . . [for Air Force members] to exercise their Constitutional right to the free exercise of religion.
—From the U.S. Air Force Chaplain Corps History and Mission (airforce.com)
I have always questioned the presence of, say, a dharma wheel or Jewish tablets adorning a chaplain’s military uniform. How can these displays not be seen as government endorsement of religion?
Stanford Researchers Mimic Transistor Using "Genetic Logic Gates"
Submitted by ftcsadmin2 on Fri, 03/29/2013 - 15:10.For the first time, synthetic biologists have created a genetic device that mimics one of the widgets on which all of modern electronics is based, the three-terminal transistor. Like standard electronic transistors, the new biological transistor is expected to work in many different biological circuit designs. Together with other advances in crafting genetic circuitry, that should make it easier for scientists to program cells to do everything from monitor pollutants and the progression of disease to turning on the output of medicines and biofuels.

Will the world end on December 21st 2012?
Submitted by Wholly Guacamole on Fri, 12/14/2012 - 23:16.Will the world end on December 21st 2012? Here's what one very well-known astrophysicist thinks:
"The 2012 end-of-the-world scenario is a hoax perpetrated by the scientifically illiterate on the scientifically under-informed. Earth is going to be here till the end of the solar system. The sun will die in five billion years."

Citizens Project Springs Billboard
Submitted by gary on Sun, 04/15/2012 - 19:10.I was pleased to find this billboard on South Circle near Platte yesterday. I haven't heard any news stories about it, but I don't follow the local fox-tracks much these days. Has anyone heard anything about these. And, do you think the average church-goes would know what they are talking about it.?
